Pannag

Easton's Bible Dictionary · 1897

(Ezek. 27:17; marg. R.V., “perhaps a kind of confection”) the Jews explain as the name of a kind of sweet pastry. Others take it as the name of some place, identifying it with Pingi, on the road between Damascus and Baalbec. “Pannaga” is the Sanscrit name of an aromatic plant (comp. Gen. 43:11).

(sweet), an article of commerce exported from Palestine to Tyre, (Ezekiel 27:17) the nature of which is a pure matter of conjecture, as the term occurs nowhere else. A comparison of the passage in Ezekiel with (Genesis 43:11) leads to the supposition that pannag represents some of the spices grown in Palestine.

PAN'NAG. Eze 27:17. Our translators wisely did not render this word into English. The most probable opinions are that it meant some kind of spice, or that it is millet. It has also been interpreted "balsam," "cassia," "sweetmeats," "panax."
