Promise

PROM'ISE, in opposition to "threatening," signifies generally an assurance of the bestowal of some good or the removal of some evil, but refers more especially to the spiritual gifts of God - the Messiah, the Holy Spirit, and the Christian Church. Thus those who have received these gifts are called "children of the promise." Rom 9:8.
